SuperSport United, once a powerhouse in South African football with three PSL titles, has officially been sold to Siwelele Football Club (Pty) Ltd, owned by Calvin Lee John—an associate of Minister Gayton McKenzie.
The R50 million deal, announced in July 2025, marks the end of SuperSport United as we know it, with the club expected to be rebranded and relocated to Bloemfontein, likely reviving the legacy of Bloemfontein Celtic.
This transition comes after a dismal 2024/25 season where the club finished 14th—its worst-ever league performance—barely avoiding relegation. Despite the struggles of the senior team, the club’s youth academy remained strong. Pending PSL approval, the rebranded club will aim to restore top-flight football in the Free State under a new identity and leadership.
