Fuel Price Hike Kicks In at Midnight

Motorists should brace for higher fuel prices from midnight, as announced by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. The new adjustments are as follows:

📈 Fuel Increases:

  • Petrol: Up by 52c to 55c per litre (depending on grade)

  • Diesel: Up by 82c to 84c per litre

  • Paraffin: Up by 89c per litre

📉 Gas Adjustment:

  • LP Gas:

    • Decrease of 57c per kg countrywide

    • Increase of R1.90 per kg in the Western Cape only

📊 Key Drivers of the Price Change:

  • Higher global oil prices due to the Middle East conflict between Israel and Iran

  • The stronger rand helped ease the petrol and diesel price hikes by 15c–16c per litre

  • LP gas price drop is linked to lower propane and butane prices

  • The slate levy remains unchanged at 0c per litre

Department spokesperson Robert Maake highlighted that geopolitical tensions and fluctuating exchange rates continue to heavily influence local fuel prices.
