Johannesburg 22 July 2025

Police have confirmed that four suspects arrested in connection with the killing of the popular amapiano star are now linked to a wider web of violent crimes in Gauteng.

DJ Sumbody, whose real name was Oupa John Sefoka, was gunned down in a brutal drive-by shooting in Woodmead back in 2022.

Now, authorities say the men behind the murder may also be responsible for a series of targeted killings across Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The case has been handed to a specialised organised crime unit, with new evidence pointing to links between the suspects and extortion gangs operating in the nightlife industry — where Sumbody ran his Ayepyep Lifestyle brand.

The trial is expected to continue next month.
