Munghana Lonene Fm & Phalaphala fm 55th Joint Celebration
In what may appear like a rare and unprecedented history, Munghana Lonene fm’s and Phalaphala fm’s morning drive listeners woke up to birthday surprise to remember. With the two stations gone #Hiswinwerirothe, the team of Dj Brian Rikhotso and Conny Mashimbye, as well as Mpho Nefale and Terry the Big Dude were having a joint broadcast of the 7-9 Phaphama and Vhandilani morning drive shows.
In celebrating their 55 years of broadcasting, the show kicked off at an accelerated pace, and the first song to go on air brought the much anticipated turbo- DJ Ganyane’s Xigubu Xiba Ngopfu. Few minutes down the line social media was in a frenzy, with listeners tweeting and indicating that they find the show irresistible , particularly given the mix of Tshivenda and Xitsonga languages, when spoken by presenters who do not normally speak the languages. Some listeners even suggested that this simulcast should happen at least once a week.
In a twist of another surprise, producers Rendani Maenda Sikhwivhilu and Xolani Walekenhuk decided to have a guest presenter extemporaneously, and the technical team at hand wasted no time to patch Thobela fm, and Mankoko Mkhari Baby was suddenly part of whole game, and she was just as flawless and seamless in her Xitsonga A.
Limpopo Premier Mr. Stanley Mathabatha, Acting Provincial General Manager Mr. Freddy Sadiki, as well as Station Manager Mr, Lawrence Ubisi, were interviewed, in this show which was viewed as a strong tool towards social cohesion.
Munghana Lonene fm and Phalaphala fm started broadcasting February 1, 1965, sharing studios and broadcasting in shifts at Commissioner Street. The two are launching their joint celebration today, marking the beginning of myriad activities planned for the month of February.
