October 2015
The moment we all have been waiting for has finally arrived. This is the 13th annual Munghana Lonene fm Xitsonga music awards. Congratulations are in order for Greater Giyani Municipality for winning the rights to host this year’s awards. The awards are going back to where they started. The inaugural awards were hosted by Giyani in 2002. The former capital city of the former Gazankulu homeland hosted the awards again in 2006. The awards are growing in leaps and bounds and people are appreciating them more. To us, the fight against Xenophobia is not a once off campaign, but an ongoing process hence we have decided to honor Mozambican Xitsonga music legend, Xidimingwana. Before Xitsonga musicians were afforded any opportunity to record and commercialize their music, this radio station was playing a lot of Xitsonga music from Mozambique. Think about the likes of Boy Mnyamane, Armando Xijumana, Banda Six, Ghorwane, Xidimingwana and many more. Vusi Mahlasela also deserves the honor. Miyela Afrika lyrics carry a very strong message about us as Africans. Twana Swigingi, swa Vunanga…#XMA13. |
