Mandela Month

Munghana Lonene fm launches Mandela Month.

01 July 2015

Embraced by young and old, celebrated by all across race, gender as well as the world at large. Mandela day has become a worldwide celebrated day but for South Africans the day means a lot more than that. It becomes a day where the whole country take time to reflect and review what has become of their lives since the dawn of democracy, compliments to the fight fought and won by the great Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and all who went to exile with him to fight for a better South Africa.

Munghana Lonene fm has embraced this month and each year the stations plans, both on & off air gets crafted to be in line with what the great Nelson Mandela believed in and strived to achieve. The station ensures that July plans include bringing relief to our communities while restoring dignity through a “donate a house/shelter” initiative that has been going on for more than 9 years. Through this generous act, the station has to this day donated a total of 16 houses and a crèche and with the 3 new houses being handed over this July 2015, the station will have donated a total of 19 houses and 1 crèche. Some of these projects falls outside of the Mandela month initiatives.

To celebrate this year’s Mandela month, Munghana Lonene fm has identified three (3) families in needy communities that will receive complete houses.

The Lishiva family of Madodonga Village under chief Sithumule in the Vhembe district will be proud owners of a beautiful house starting from Wednesday 15th July 2015. This family of 2 unemployed, physically & mentally challenged adults will say goodbye to a mud one room house which used to be their shelter.

On Friday 17th July 2015, the station will be handing over a house to the Grobler family. The family resides at Ruanda an informal settlement in Nwa-Mitwa village, Tzaneen while
The Khosa family of Majeje Village in Phalaborwa will also be proud owners of a beautiful house which they will receive on Saturday the 18th July 2015. This family of 8 will say goodbye to a one room shack which they shared for many years.

“As a station, Munghana Lonene fm remains very committed to serving the community while focusing and putting more emphasis in addressing challenges that communities continue to grapple with. It is such a rewarding feeling to work for this platform which enables us to make a difference in the community or individuals lives” says Munghana Lonene fm acting station manager, Mr. Lawrence Ubisi.
